South Carolina

Benefits of going solar in South Carolina:

  1. Reduced energy bills: By installing a solar system, you can generate your own electricity and reduce your reliance on the grid, leading to lower energy bills.

  2. Increased home value: Solar panels can increase the value of your property, as they are a desirable feature for many homebuyers.

  3. Environmental impact: Solar energy is clean, renewable, and emits no greenhouse gases, making it an environmentally friendly option.

  4. Energy independence: By producing your own energy, you can become less dependent on traditional energy sources and their fluctuating prices.

Net metering policies in South Carolina:

  1. The state's investor-owned utilities offer net metering to residential and commercial customers with solar systems up to 1 MW in capacity.

  2. Excess energy produced by the solar system is credited to the customer's account at the retail rate and can be used to offset future energy bills.

  3. If the customer generates more energy than they use over the course of a billing cycle, they can roll over the excess credits to the next month.

  4. At the end of a 12-month billing cycle, any remaining credits are cashed out at the utility's avoided cost rate.

Rebates and incentives in South Carolina:

  1. South Carolina offers a state income tax credit of up to 25% of the cost of a solar system, with a maximum credit of $3,500 for residential customers and $35,000 for commercial customers.

  2. There is also a 30% federal tax credit available for the cost of a solar system.

  3. Property tax exemptions are available for the added value of a solar system to a property.

  4. Some utilities may also offer additional incentives or programs for their customers, such as rebates or loans for the installation of a solar system.
